It has been several months since Sylvia went after the Floating Cyrstals, and we had to fight the WEAPON with the help if Frost, Red, Sano and Goku. It has been half that since I fought Mash in the Stone Garden. I still hurt, but that has not kept me from the one thing I am more than determined to do: build my Airship.
It has taken me a while to gather as many crystals as I could find from the cave at Tetsuyama, and just as much to hire a team to get the remains of the WEAPON and bring it back to Half-Hill. In that time, I have been looking at my plans for the Airship. I have hundreds of designs floating in my head, but all of those require steel, which I do not have access too. I have searched this world for a steel mill, but I cannot find one. No matter. With what I have planed, I wont need to build from scratch.
I have been looking at purchasing a ship from the Arrisen Harbor, possibly a little skiff just to start with. Testing some of my theories for useing the crystals for lift, and then... Not sure what to do about forward flight, maybe go out on a windy day? Either way, I need to look at my funds.
Adonis has been dropping bags of gold and gems here for the past year. Every note says 'For your horde'. Aurora has told me what a 'horde' is. I now realize how much I need it too. My cache of gold has been hidden away, and I wont even confide to this journal where it is. But I know that it does come in handy for living here.
Where was I... The Airship. No name, no atachment. I know that if it gets destroyed, I can build a new one and not care. I have plans for if it ever looses power from the crystals, it can remain flying for a while. Gonna have to test that system too.
Recently I have been testing the 'float power' of the crystals, finding that they can carry over 2 tons. For 5 hand sized crystals that only weight 8 oz. each, that is a lot of power. I can't wait to see what the 5 six pound crystals can carry! Along with a network of smaller 4 oz. crystals. From what I have been looking at, the system will work. I can fuel it once with a Key Crystal that I have discovered. From my models, I have found that the hole network will stem from one crystal, which will power the rest. It just so happens to the crystal that has all the energy from Mash's Black Genocide. (need to send Sano a thank you for that.) I hope it all works out.
Sylvia and I are leaving for the Harbor tomorrow, planing on purchasing a skiff, or even a large ship to begin working on.
--Tempest Storm, 761 SR. March (June 11, 2005 by my watch.)
~~~
A wagon, drawn by 12 huge pack horses, rolled into Arrisen Harbor. The two people sitting on the drivers seat were heavily cloaked and hooded with no way to tell who they were. Their wagon was over burden, a dark canvas tarp covering the whole thing. It was impossible to tell what was underneath it, save for the jingling of small metal parts and clicking of glass.
The larger person pointed to a huge barn set near the port, and the driver led the team of horses in. The horses were unhitched and taken to a nearby stable. The handler gave the Stable Master a bag, with a muttered order. The door to the barn closed shortly after, no one the wiser as to what was going on inside.
((OOC: I know this isn't much of a start, but It will get better.))
*Underneath the icy peaks of the tetsuyama, Frost labors on the work he has be working with ever since he gathered the crystals.Occasionally stopping to train in the icy winds, Frost goes to perfect his legacy and his testing with the crystals.Frost is currently hard at work making calculations on a table.*
FrostXero:Okay for the past several months I have been working on this project. I have made sure not to make the mistake like last time.......
*As frost was reminiscing he had the re-occurring thought that has been plaguing him since the start of his serene isolation started. Frost started to wonder had he become like his father.....His first attempt at making an inhuman sicon of him self failed and backfired, and now he is perfecting this attempt to make no mistake.....Just as his father....*
FrostXero: Damn...why do these thoughts always haunt me? The ones I want to go away stay and the ones I want to stay goes....
*As soon as Frost ended his thought a slight bubbling at frost project started indecated that he failed....
FrostXero:Damn........ Well might as well as go get some new supplies and visit my masters.....
*Frost took a vision of his old places and teleported to ryoko*
At Arrisen Harbor, a small ship docks. After being anchored down, the passengers unboard the ship, followed by the crew. Of the passengers, one young man in particular stands out of the crowd, because of the strange object hanging from his belt. This device is a cylinder-shaped object, about the size and length of a flashlight. It is perfectly chrome with a small, pressure sensitive lever attached to the side of it, obviously used for activation of the device. The passengers go through a rigorous search at the gates by Ryuusei Shogunate guards, ensuring that no weapons have been smuggled in. Finally, it is the young man's turn to be searched.
GUARD: "Before we search your possessions, I must read this to you. 'By order of Ryuusei Amidamaru, Daiou of Gaeasei, it is under our authority to search any and all personal effects for anything that can be considered contraband, including weapons, Magick Tomes, Magickal Runes, and alchemical materials. Failure to cooperate may result in severe penalties including, but not limited to, death, torture, incarceration, and/or exile. If any objects confiscated are wrongfully accused of being contraband, you must head to Keiga to plead your case in front of his lordship, Ryuusei Amidamaru. If your company is not accepted, then you must plead your case to the appointed officer.'....Do you accept these terms?"
MAEL: "....I do."
Mael's possessions are searched carefully, but nothing is found. Then the guards procure the device attached to his belt. Upon pressing the lever, a beam of bright light ignites from the end of it. It stays at a specific length, not exceeding 35". The beam is also a cylinder, rounded at the tip.
GUARD1: "...what th' hell is this?!"
Mael reaches up and takes back the device.
GUARD2: "What is that device, boy?"
Mael once again ignites the device in question.
MAEL: "This... this is a beam of concentrated thermal energy. It has the potential to cut through any alloy known to man or beast. It cuts through flesh and bone even faster. This magnificent blade, composed of Blue Thermal Energy, held in place by polarized Ions, is unbeatable by a steel sword. No armor can block this weapon."
The guards slowly draw their weapons, and take a few steps away from Mael.
GUARD2: "...So...that's a weapon?"
MAEL: "...yes. It is."
GUARD1: "Then hand it over. You know the law. The law prohibits the possession of weapons by civilians."
MAEL: "Oh, but I am no civilian. I'm a member of V Factor."
GUARD1: "Oh? Well then, my apologies, sir! Let him pass!"
Mael walks past the guards, while reattaching his beam saber to his belt. He then notices strange noises coming from the barn. He sneaks over to listen in a little better, but hears nothing but muffled talking, and other unknown sounds. He creaks the door open gently, and sneaks his way into the barn. He takes shelter behind a large crate located near the activity.
Just as Mael's ship was coming in, Sylvia stood on the Harbor wall, looking at all the ships docked. Ever since the Shogunate had his stupid soldiers wandering around, the Harbor which was said to be protect by Dragon Guard Spells, had been loosing business as weapons, which were made by smiths here, were not being purchased. It was hurting the economy. But not that much as the smiths put more effort into other, non-leathal, items. She was more concerned about the pirates that were still on the sea. They coudl attack at any time, and the people here would be in serious trouble.
Looking down at the docks, least where Tempest had asked her to look for possible ships that he could use, she caught sight of Shogunte soldiers moving about, and letting a particular invidual pass. Gripping her staff, she mae her way down from the wall. Before she could get near the Docks, a soldier stopped her.
Guard: Young lady, I will need to take you staff, it is classifide as a weapon.
Sylvia smiled, and shied away a little.
Sylvia: "I'm sorry, I have a pass to kep it, as it is a mark of my trade, a song mage. I need it for casting spells. It came from my father, the headman of the Shiona Tribe. They would be displeased If i had t give it up--"
Soldier: "I'm sorry to hear that, but by law, I must take your staff."
Sylvia pulled a peice of paper from a small pocket on her skirt and held it out to him. The pass stated that she could keep her staff with her at all times.
The soldier took the paper, and read it over quickly.
Soldier: Very well... I guess you may keep it.
Sylvia smiled, grabed the pass, and moved around the soldier. Looking back to the docks again, she lost sight of the strange guy. Jumping up onto a railing, she looking over the fisher men and workers that were around.
Sylvia: Damnit... Where did he go?
Mael peeks over the crate, noticing odd looking, yet primitive devices scattered atop a few tables and desks.
MAEL: '...most of this... is junk.... why would anyone want to keep junk?'
He comes out from hiding, assuming the coast is clear, and begins prodding around at the 'junk'.
MAEL: "Well... maybe whoever owns this building collects junk..."
FrostXero: hmm i got about half of the stuff but not all.....Maybe trading at the docks will be better...
*With one quick flash frost is gone*
Lightning cracks over the crate, stoping Mael from proding any further. It blows a chunk out of the crate, showing the more advanced technological item below. It was encased in wood shavings for protection.
? ??: Back away from there. You have no right to be proding around in here.
The rest of the building was dark, and only glowing green eyes from the distance gave any idea there was someone there.
? ??: What business do you have here?
In the darkness, a light-blue beam ignites, illuminating the atmosphere.
MAEL: "...your words sound far from friendly. I saw no sign that warned against trespassers, so I found my way in. If you have an issue with that, it'd be wise to address it in a somewhat civil manner."
The light cast from Mael's beam saber emits an eerie glow on the objects in front of him.
MAEL: "Now who are you, and what business do YOU have here, fooling around with such obsolete materials...?"
Tempest stepped from the darkness, lightning flaring around him, and shooting to the crystals set along the walls. They all flared to life.
Tempest: My business is none of your concern. But, I will tell you that I happen to be working here. My project is none of your concern either, or that of the Shogunate. I have handed over my weapon and any 'magical' device that might possibly be in my possesion. I don't see what would bring you around here, if at all.
MAEL: "You have me confused. I'm not with the Shogunate."
Mael looks over some of the devices again.
MAEL: "...and even if I was, you've not handed over your magickal devices. Not all of them, anyhow."
Mael picks up a floating crystal.
MAEL: "This has magickal properties. Once energized they float. Do you not define this as magick?"
He places the crystal back onto the table, and deactivates his weapon, reattaching it to his belt.
MAEL: "...and Airship, hm?.... Odd... this looks to be quite modern for this era."
He turns and faces Tempest.
MAEL: "I am Mael Gainsborough. And you are?"
Tempest: That is only a plan... I'm Tempest Storm, Engineer. You can fool moronic soldiers into believeing that a simple glowing crystal has no true magical property. I'm not going to let that stop me from completeing my ship and getting the hell away from Geasei.
Tempest shook his head and went over to a work bench where he had been putting to gether brackets and crystal holders for the ship. It was hard to tell if he had been working in the dark, or under full light.
Temepst: If you aren't with the Shogunate, then how the hell are you stil able to carry a weapon? What faction are you really part of?
Mael smiles.
MAEL: "I'm from the V Factor....only no one can prove that. You see... I'm..not from around here. Where I'm from, this beam saber is a common thing among warriors and soldiers. Since the Shogunate and the V Factor have an alliance to hold peace, I'm able to brandish this thing of my own accord."
Mael watches Tempest with the assembly.
MAEL: "...and yes.... the Shogunate Guards... most of them are slow thinkers. They didn't even ask to scan my V-Ca-.....oh... well I guess they wouldn't, would they."
Mael's have sentence only brings questions to mind. "Scan"? With what? In this time certainly there was no machine that could scan, and the Shogunate has never employed Mages for information. How odd.
Tempest nods.
Tempest: Then... you and I are nearly from the same boat. I'm also not from around here, but possibly a few years behind you in terms of technology. I could make a scanner, but it would take parts that I don't readily have on hand. No one asked me to make it anyway.
Tempest turned in his seat to look Mael over.
Tempest: I'm guessing the V Factor knows you are here. So... does that make you a time traveler?
***
Sylvia still scanned the crowd, and finally picked out a familiar face. Jumping down from the fence, she skipped over to him.
Sylvia: Frost... Hey there.
Mael gives a small chuckle.
MAEL: "No, the V Factor isn't aware of my presence here. Mainly because this happened entirely by mistake. I was supposed to only go 500 years back, but the Chronometer bugged and I got sent here, to this time period. So, all I have to do now is fix the Chronometer. Which is a simple task by itself, but as you've mentioned, with such primitive technology the parts required are scare.. .....well, non-existant really. I'll have to develop the parts myself. And yes, that does make me a time-traveller."
He looks around the materials in Tempest's barn again.
MAEL: "You do seem to know your machines though... I'll give you that much..."
